Three Cooking Shows on TV

Three Cooking Shows on TV

Food is always a popular topic, and shows that address this life’s pleasure are always on producers’ agenda. Back in the 90s, food shows were basically about cooking food in front of a camera while TV viewers would attempt to follow or take notes to try the recipes later. This concept remained the same into the 21st century with some adaptations that add to the entertainment factor. For instance, we had Martha Stewart having celebrities come into her kitchen and cook with her while they were getting interviewed.  Rachael Ray acquired a celebrity status as a perky, vivacious, and yet warm, cooking expert.

Today, cooking shows have added a more complex reality factor that is aimed at attracting those viewers who are not especially fond of cooking but love to watch a good reality show.

Hell’s Kitchen

This is a reality show that is really a competition.  The concept is rather simple: Young chefs are given a challenge to provide what will be, in the opinion of world-renowned chef, Gordon Ramsey, the best concoction. Contestants are eliminated during every episode. Probably the most popular feature of this show is the demeaning and humiliating remarks from Ramsey that the amateur cooks have to endure if they do not meet his demands.

Top Chef

Top Chef is very similar to Hell’s Kitchen, except that sixteen contestants are in the running for the title. The show offers a variety of venues where local and cultural food is exploited. The winner is awarded some amazing perks that include a monetary prize of $125,000.

The Rachael Ray Show

Rachael Ray has always been a TV favorite due to her charisma and humanity.  She managed to combined her down-to-earth persona and make people feel at home on her show. Watching her cook and interviewing her guests while she interacts with the audience feels like visiting a close friend.
